It was January 27, 2009, it was snowing, and it was only going to get worse. This was the day that the Jay Wackler, Matt Owen, Lisa Whitaker and Maria Ariga (the Executive Directors of the Covington, Tipp City, Piqua and Troy Area Chambers) brought a group of young professionals together to talk about the development of a young professional’s organization in the Northern Miami Valley. It was that meeting that led to the formation of a new group that is today known as HYPE (Helping Young Professionals Emerge).
The basic idea was to create a group that would better connect young professionals from across the Northern Miami Valley – to each other, to businesses and to the community. The end goal was much bigger – to establish an organization that could play a leadership role in organizing the types of social, professional, and community opportunities that would help the local businesses both retain and attract young professionals both now and in the future.
On May 18, 2009, HYPE became reality as well over 100 young professionals came together at Club 55 in Troy for “HYPE Kickoff”, and the response we received was overwhelming. It was rewarding to hear how many of the attendees had wondered why a group like this hadn’t been formed sooner. Since that time we’ve continued to build our numbers and add to our roster.
What can HYPE do for me?
HYPE has a wide variety of events and programs with the hope of appealing to the needs and wants of young professionals in the area. Our popular “Thirsty Thursday” social events provide the opportunity to meet and mix with other young professionals in a relaxed and comfortable environment at a variety of local establishments. We have a slate of professional development programs planned and are looking to add events to help our members grow at the professional level. We offer our support to a variety of community initiative and charitable organizations. We try to create opportunities to “Play…With a Purpose.” While having fun is our primary goal at every HYPE activity, we never forget our mission.
How do I Join?
HYPE is a “member” organization. At this time, there is no cost to join and no obligations of membership other than to support the mission and goals of the organization. We have committed to maintaining this no cost format. Should there come a time that we need to charge a membership fee, we are committed to the fee being no more than $10/year. We have an energetic group of leaders that you can learn more about, or get in touch with by clicking here. At this time, all you have to do to Join HYPE is to send an email that says “Sign me Up” to hypenmvmembership@gmail.com.
